Soon after the COVID-19 pandemic, Don Gallehue started to receive meals though the Area Agency on Aging 3’s Home Delivered Meals Program. Since July 2020, Mr. Gallehue has received over 300 meals delivered to his home.
As a homebound individual, grocery shopping and meal preparation had become more and more of a task. Mr. Gallehue’s wife has been in the nursing home, making the task even more of a burden. Home delivered meals have helped the Gallehue family reduce the burden of meal preparation and planning and allows Mr. Gallehue to continue to live independently and take time to enjoy all life has to offer.
One of these enjoyments is being a big sports fan! At 96 years old, Mr. Gallehue’s son, Jim, still refers to his dad as the Energizer Bunny! Much of this energy is devoted to being an avid sports fan. Jim is a diehard for some local favorites—the Cleveland Browns, the Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Cincinnati Reds. Although he never misses a Reds game, his current favorite team resides in Edon, Ohio where his great-grandson stars on Friday nights as the quarterback for the Bombers.
"The Gallehue family is extremely pleased with the meals provided with COVID funding. It has been a tremendous help to Mr. Gallehue as it has helped him to remain independent and in the home since his wife has been in the nursing home.”
“We cannot say enough how much we appreciate this wonderful service. Everything is great, from the nutritious meals to the delivery guy who frequently spends time having conversation with my dad. We appreciate it all.” -Jim Gallehue (son) To learn more about the Home Delivered Meals Program contact the Area Agency on Aging 3 at 419-222-7723 or visit the website at www.aaa3.org.
