Silver Bridge Program: Building a Bright Future

The Silver Bridge Program was formed in 2023 between the Auglaize Council on Aging, Area Agency on Aging 3 and the Silver Birch Foundation. This program helps to secure resources and funding for individuals that need home modifications done that can’t get assistance anywhere else in Auglaize County.

Sandra is an older individual who lives in St. Marys and she had reached out to the Auglaize Council on Aging for a ramp request. The Council on Aging reached out to the Area Agency on Aging 3’s Home Modification Supervisor – Dave Luersman to ask for help with funding through the ongoing Silver Bridge project. The team visited the home and a plan was determined to use Silver Bridge program.

“Conversations took place, which contacted the builder, Rick. He came to the home to look at the layout, and created the best, functional design. After supplies were ordered and delivered, it took two days of hard work for the beautiful ramp to come to life,” Luersman stated.

Below is a statement from Sandra about the addition of her ramp.

“I have suffered with arthritis for years. Recently my mobility became more troublesome, and my everyday living dynamics changed. What was once easier for me to accomplish, had become a struggle. For several years I have enjoyed being a participant of the ACCA organization. The weekly socialization and friendships with others is priceless. When it was decided that my level of mobility was a safety concern to all involved, the suggestion of having a ramp installed at my home evolved.”

Sandra went on to ad, “Once again, I can feel safe stepping out of my home, onto a sturdy ramp, with no steps to worry about. I am forever grateful to receive this gift of safer independence. Before the ramp, I could not climb up or down the concrete steps into my home without assistance. I missed being away from my ACCA friends for several weeks. I cannot express enough the positive impact the ramp has given me. Thank you to all involved in this labor of love!”
